Position Summary

 

To identify and create new opportunities in the specialties end markets for plastics distribution and to position Nexeo Plastics as the distribution partner of choice within the supplier community. 

 

The Director, Product Line Management (Specialties) shares responsibility for the success of the specialties end markets in North America and oversees the product line managers for the specialties end markets for that region.  This leader is responsible for the volume and gross margin growth of his or her product lines and delivering related targets, successfully managing the company’s current supplier relationships, and expanding the company’s product line card.  He or she is also responsible for managing the pricing execution process for his or her product lines.  This leader will need to demonstrate an ability to step in and deliver results in the short- and long-term and exhibit strong collaboration with other functional leaders in the organization.  This role reports to the Vice President of Product Line and Market Management and will office in The Woodlands, Texas.

 

Major responsibilities include:

 

  • Develop, execute and measure strategic and data-driven business plans, effective and targeted product campaigns, and end market and growth strategies to deliver volume and gross margin growth
  • Work collaboratively with sales leadership and the field organization to ensure the team delivers its financial commitments to include growth and gross margin targets. This includes having a fixation on targets and deadlines, driving a high level of accountability, and establishing an environment in which the product line management team continually seeks to improve
  • Maintain and cultivate key supplier relationships, including development and engagement strategies and related growth plans
  • Identify and seek new supplier partnerships to support long-term growth strategies and end market development
  • Determine the value equation for suppliers within the specialty end markets, including use of effective scorecards to track performance
  • Manage pricing execution to include processes related to list and off-list prices and price exceptions
  • Work with the sales and network planning teams to manage inventory buy strategies and strategic sourcing plans to ensure appropriate level of inventory is maintained in accordance with same
  • Lead the team to effectively manage price negotiations, supply contracts, list and off-list price management, and profit improvement initiatives
  • Provide support to the technical services and sales teams as otherwise needed and through the delivery of internal and external trainings
  • Understand impact of global markets on the plastics industry and share anticipated industry trends
  • Build an in depth knowledge of product lines and the factors driving supply and demand
  • Facilitate trade shows to increase market visibility
  • Use useful success metrics that mark progress, not just report results

 

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

 

Ideal Experience

 

  • Bachelors, MBA preferred
  • Distribution experience, preferably in the plastics industry
  • Product management and sales experience, preferably within the plastics industry (particularly in specialty plastics)
  • In depth materials experience—demonstrated understanding of the production, distribution, and sales of materials (preferably plastics) in a highly competitive and dynamic environment
  • Demonstrated and proven financial business acumen, with P&L leadership
  • Successful experience developing and implementing sales and end-market strategies that deliver organic EBITDA growth within a complex, matrixed commercial organization
  • At least eight years of experience in leadership and/or general management roles, with an ability to develop direct reports
  • Expertise with contract negotiation and development
  • Experience in tackling complex challenges with a balance of creativity, flexibility and careful, data-driven analysis
  • Exceptional leadership and people management skills
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, at the executive level, cross functionally, and at all levels of the of organization
  • Strong collaboration skills
  • Experience in a private-equity environment
  • Experience developing digital technologies to improve business processes and customer experience
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, SAP Business Warehouse, and Salesforce.com
