Basic Purpose

The Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for developing and implementing a plan to grow sales for the ETP, specialty resin portfolio.  As a Business Development Manager, the person will oversee Nexeo Plastics supplier based targets in partnership with sales, marketing, and Commercial leadership.  Working closely with internal and external contacts the person will ensure alignment and execution of business plans and strategies for targeted products, customers, markets, and segments. 

 

They will be the liaison between the supplier and Nexeo commercial teams, acting as an in-house expert on their designated supplier portfolio’s products, positioning, and end market strategies to support the sales team, driving growth in pipeline and sales.

 

Additional responsibilities: researching organizations and individuals to find new opportunities, contacting potential customers to establish rapport and arrange meetings, and planning and overseeing new marketing initiatives connected to their supplier portfolio.

 

Key performance indicators:

  • Increasing pipeline total by count and by volume
  • Increased closed/won volume
  • Volume growth vs target
  • Improved supplier satisfaction scores

 

Description of Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop strategy to deliver upon supplier objectives.
  • Understand end markets, applications, regulations for which suppliers’ products are used
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes, particularly injection molding
  • Outline Targets by Region. Set traveling schedule and work with the regional teams to make joint calls with sales
  • Guiding Sales Opportunities:  Understands the Nexeo sales process, and constantly reviews the pipeline for opportunities to support the local seller in closing the opportunity. 
  • Prepare presentations, business reviews, and various sales or proposal tools for effective development of business opportunities for Nexeo.
  • Create a regular cadence and communication plan for leadership, technical, sales, and product line management for updates/reports related to supplier performance and growth plan
  • Interface with supplier to coordinate training and product positioning communication to the sales team
  • Develop Trusting Relationships:  Builds and maintains collaborative, cohesive, trusting environment with coworkers, industry contacts, and suppliers
  • Market Knowledge:  Keeps up to date on industry and market trends, leveraging market knowledge into strategic insight and sales growth strategies
  • Sales Administration uses sales technology tools extensively (SFDC, Nextsteps, Qlik)

 

Minimum Requirements (Education, Experience & Skills)

  • Bachelor’s degree; engineering, chemistry, business, or similar field preferred.
  • 5-10+ years of specialty resin sales or related industry experience is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through verbal and written communication to cross-functional teams and external customers.
  • Willing to travel 40%+

  • Proven track record of delivering consistent short and long-term growth.
  • Experience in sales management prospecting, negotiating, and closing.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented collaborative environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, SAP, CRM/ERP systems, and Salesforce preferred.
  • Establish and maintain interpersonal relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Ability work in a fast-paced environment.
